    Renovating

    Hello.

As you might see I am buggering about with Facebook here on my blog. I’m connecting my wall feed and I’ve just installed Facebook Connect – which means you can use your Facebook login for leaving comments – and you can share my blog posts on your wall if you like.

Who would ever have thought. I’ve been an avid anti-Facebooker for ages now and I’ve finally seen the light. I just wish they’d redesign their interface. I know I certainly have some work to do on mine since I’ve added all this stuff.

And then one day I’ll write a proper blog post. I know I keep saying that.

Tonight I missed the NZ premier of Handmade Nation.

    Bugger.

    Behind the scenes

Ooh hoo. Just upgraded things around here so I can blog from my new toy. Next I’ll redesign it. But that won’t be for a while because next weekend we’re off to Nelson to pick up our new car (a 1991 Saab 900). Melissa will be there to pick us up – what a small world, we’re buying the car off her parents almost neighbours.

I haven’t even said we moved from Waiheke to Parnell a couple of weeks ago. Edith is now rolling, so much so she even rolled plop, straight off the sofa when I turned around to tell Kevin a story the other night.

You wouldn’t belive it’s winter. Today I’m wearing all my London summer clothes with the exception of a pair of woolen tights.

    Meaningful blog post soon soon.
All this upheaval has been keeping us a bit preoccupied.

    Joomla menu items

Today I forgot how to make menu items show up in Joomla. I typed in can’t make menus work in Joomla, menus not showing up in Joomla, menus not working in Joomla.

The secret was to create :

    sections
    categories
    articles

    menus
    menu items
    then create modules as well.

The secret lies in creating modules and remembering to make the menu style legacy vertical.

    Lovely news

It’ll be a while before it’s got everything in it that I want, but I’ve made a start on www.lovelyshops.com – a little project that’s been bubbling under for some time, waiting for me to finish other bits of work.

    picture-7.jpg

Lovely Shops will be a pure shopping guide of all my favourite, mostly online, shops from around the world.

It will be highly edited, so I won’t be posting just for the sake of it – but it will be the repository of places I shop – because goodness knows I love the postman and the delights he brings with him! And I’m sure my favourite shops will keep us all busy for a while.

As will the other lovelies – I’ve resurrected Lovely NZ, and there’s another little project or two I’ll be launching very soon.

On my last day at work…

I remembered to take the little camera in to document my journey.

Out the gate, into very late Summer…

    img_2790.jpg

Down the road and around the corner to the 24 bus stop. Then on to Warren Street where I get off and it’s a stone’s throw to Euston Square station.

    img_2792.jpg

Onto the Eastbound platform where I take the first train. If I don’t get a seat I might get off again and wait for another train. Need to sit down to crochet. Or at least have a wall to lean on.

    img_2793.jpg

On to Liverpool Street where I get off and sometimes get some money out. Sometimes I’ll have a look in Paperchase at the Moleskines, or buy a salad from M&S. Most days I’ll get a coffee from the Market Coffee House. How could I not make the most of being so close to the best coffee in London.

    img_2796.jpg

Through Spitalfields market and up to the Truman Brewery, past Wieden + Kennedy with their coolest ever offices.

    img_2810.jpg

Then through the little road around the brewery buildings, past the Rootmaster busaurant.

    img_2813.jpg

Down the little lane, past the clothes shops,

    img_2815.jpg

    past story deli pizza

    img_2816.jpg

Here we are… the Atlantis Building in Brick Lane,

    img_2818.jpg

    up the stairs…

    img_2819.jpg

and here i am at work.

Grand finale interior shot to be found over at 44.

Joomla and Simple Image Gallery Pro

    dsc03496.jpg

The pretty photo is for those who came here hoping to find a handmade, baby or garden post and instead found this terribly dry coding post :)

I’ve had a few setbacks on the Joomla front and have had to spend such a long time finding solutions I’m writing them here in case they can help a few people in the future.

Firstly, Simple Image Gallery and Simple Image Gallery Pro did not work not matter what I did. I searched for ‘Simple Image Gallery not working’, ‘Simple Image Gallery only showing code’, ‘my thumbnails do not show in Simple Image Gallery’. The troubleshooting guide was telling me to check permissions and GD Libraries, all of which were ok. The solution I found buried – and I knew it would be simple; take out the spaces in the gallery code.

    The demo instructions tell you to use this code: { gallery }summer_trip_to_italy{ /gallery }
    In fact, you need to take out the spaces so they read {gallery}summer_trip_to_italy{/gallery}

Also, if you’re having trouble installing Simple Image Gallery or Pro – getting an error message: Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package then you need to unzip simple_image_gallery_pro.zip and inside you will find two further zip files. plugin_jw_sigpro-j10-1.2.zip is for Joomla 1.0 and plugin_jw_sigpro-j15-1.2.zip is for Joomla 1.5.
