Marimekko and Linnet

Before I packed all my fabric away there was one little job left to be done. To finish off some little bags I’ve been making. Which reminded me just how much I love sewing and making bags. And dresses for the girls. Many recent projects I’ve not actually posted here, but perhaps it’s time to return to my roots and put more of my creative projects up on my blog.

There’s nothing like spending the good part of an afternoon choosing fabrics and linings, making that final decision to use up the best Linnet leather for handles (gasp). Mixing things together to see what’s going to work. Will the Marimekko work with this Linnet or that Linnet? And which fabric will suit Chloe best? Shinzi Katoh? Definitely. Paired with a softer Linnet floral voile with delicate pink flowers on a light brown background I bought when we were in Rona Road.

Which led me to spending hours and hours poring over my favourite fabrics on the Linnet website. And the linen yarns. Lamenting the fact the royal blue has sold out. But the lovely brown floral is still available.

Which then led me to ordering two books on Amazon Japan. The book our little house was in all those years ago, and a new sewing book for the girls.

I can’t wait to get them when we arrive at our new house on Wednesday! It really will feel like a new beginning. But a new beginning of returning to my roots – a bit like 2007.

Also to note: Happy Birthday Grandma – you would be 103 today! And 15 years ago to this very day I arrived in London with my pink backpack on my back, containing a few clothes, my design folio, a set of good kitchen knives and the white crochet bedspread Grandma made me.
