A lot of people seem to like my Instagrams of the daily view and Alex had been asking me for some time what it sounded like out here.
So I finally read the instructions on how to use my 5d to shoot video. It took ages to sift through Google to find any, and they were all so complicated.
Basic instructions on how to shoot film with a Canon 5d Mark ii
- Turn the top left dial to the green oblong.
- Press the button to the left of the viewfinder with the camera and printer on it so you can see what you’re filming in the viewfinder.
- To start and stop filming press the “Set” button. The “Set” button is the one in the middle of the big round dial at the back of the camera.
- If that doesn’t work you might need to do some more setting up – instructions here.
I have now got a huge collection of .MOV files of our house and garden and the birds and all the associated sounds at dusk. And because our internet connection is so totally hopeless I can’t download Adobe Premiere from Creative Cloud, that I pay for, because BT is rubbish. Basically.
So for now, here’s an unedited first video. Kevin is calling Oscar at the end. That’s pretty much standard for around our house. Oscar the cat who likes to hunt mice until the very last minute before he comes in for supper and bed time.
I have no idea what that other sound is – the one that sounds like an old fashioned film reel running. That isn’t a special effect! Anyone have any ideas?
